Letter from session

Dear Friends,

With Pastor Don’s departure after almost eight years among us, we realize that there are many questions about the transition process, succession planning, and what is happening at Liberty Corner Presbyterian Church in general. To that end, the Session would like to renew our commitment to supporting you and the mission of the church to make disciples of Jesus Christ who make disciples. We are committed to communicating frequently and fully with the congregation as we move forward with anticipation to the opportunities that God is preparing for us.

Pastor Peter Pendell will be joining us as guest preacher during the Advent and Christmas season and into the New Year to work alongside Pastor Anne Havrilla and Pastor Steve Janssen. A former Senior Pastor of Millington Baptist Church, Peter is a familiar figure in our community and many of you may know him. Please join us to welcome him on December 3, the first Sunday of Advent.

The Session has identified Elders Elizabeth Barickman, Dick Carr, Kevin Liguori, and Gerry Nelson as the Transition Team to address the immediate needs of the church staff, ensure that day-to-day operations run smoothly, and facilitate implementation of the search process that will ultimately lead to the formation of a Pastor Nominating Committee. We plan to work with our Northeast Coast Presbytery’s Ministry Partnership Team during the transition and search process for a new Senior Pastor. ECO gives the individual church considerable flexibility to implement a process that works best for its specific circumstances, and provides resources to help with the search.

For now, what can you do? Keep up to date on the transition through Connections, the Weekly Update email, and our website; continue your attendance in Sunday worship, Bible study, spiritual formation, and fellowship opportunities; and volunteer where you feel called. Most importantly, keep our church and our dedicated team of caring pastors, worship leaders, and support staff in your prayers.

Proverbs 3:5-6 says, “Trust in the Lord with all your heart and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make your paths straight.” This is a time to lean into the Lord and his Word with confidence that he will continue to provide our church with everything we need to share the Gospel and bless our community.

As we enter the joyful Advent and Christmas season, we are deeply grateful for you and each of our covenant partners at Liberty Corner Presbyterian Church. Your love, faithfulness, and presence make our church a vibrant and caring community.

We hope you will feel free to contact any one of us with questions or concerns in the coming months. And know that while Session is actively working on a plan to move us forward in the interim and initiate the search for a new Senior Pastor, we will continue living and loving as the body of Christ at Liberty Corner, trusting God to lead us into the future to which he is calling us.

In Christ,

Liberty Corner Presbyterian Church Session
